Choosing where to stay among the areas of Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi's coastal settlements string along the Bay of Kotor rather than clustering around one centre, and what separates them is mostly mood and access: a flat seafront street at Baošići, a shipyard splitting Bijela's shore in two, a short promenade at Đenovići. Few of them offer sights on the doorstep, so the choice is really about the base you want.

Bijela suits budget travellers and quiet-seeking families, cheap and calm even in August, though most hotels and guesthouses close outside May to November. Kumbor ties its swimming to one large hotel with a private beach, indoor and outdoor pools and a spa, making it a place to stay rather than tour. Đenovići gives you pebble beaches, weathered captain's houses and konoba meals within a few minutes' walk.

Closer in, Topla is the built-up strip between Igalo and the old town, handy on foot with restaurants and a bus stop but not a quiet village. Meljine, about 3 km east of Herceg Novi, puts apartments over hotels and uses the Pet Danica promenade as its way into town.

Which base matches your kind of trip

Families and groups wanting apartment space should look at Baošići, with its flat walk along Obala Ribara and an easy position between Herceg Novi and Tivat. Couples and families after quiet swimming head for Đenovići, while Njivice offers a low-rise coastal strip with Plaža Njivice a short walk from the hotels.

If you want to be on foot, Topla sits between Igalo and the Stari Grad with restaurants and a bus stop nearby. Travellers with a car wanting calm can weigh Zelenika, quiet with housing close to the water, or the inland Sutorina valley, which works only with a car or a reliable bus link.

Seasonal shutdowns to plan around

Bijela is the one place where the calendar matters most: most hotels and guesthouses close outside May to November, and the town quietens in winter. Time a stay inside the season or treat it as a summer-only base.

Practical transport shifts too. Njivice is served by bus line 6, but it stops running by early afternoon, so plan beach time and returns around that. Elsewhere the settlements are quiet bases with little of their own, and Herceg Novi is the drive for meals and the old town.
