Three ziplines fly over the Tara Canyon beside the Đurđevića Tara Bridge near Žabljak: Red Rock, Montenegro (Yellow) and Extreme Tara (Green). Pick Red Rock for a quick, cheap 350 m flight you walk back from, and Extreme Tara if you want the long high-speed line with transport included. This guide compares lengths, prices, limits, season and booking so you can choose before you drive up.

Everything starts at the same stretch of road: the bridge car park, with free parking and check-in a short walk away. From there the choice is mostly about how much time and money you want to spend on roughly a minute of airtime.

Which ziplines run over Tara Canyon

Red Rock is the line closest to the bridge, with 350 m cables and a flight of about 45 seconds, listed by its operator at 20€ per person. You fly 170 m above the canyon floor and walk back across the bridge afterwards, which takes around ten minutes.

Extreme Tara is the long line, advertised as a 1,050 m flight across the canyon with speeds reaching 120 km/h and a flight of roughly one minute within a 15–25 minute experience. It is sold as a booking from €55, and transport back to the starting point is part of the package.

The Montenegro (Yellow) line sits between the two in style, and its operator says transport is included after the flight, as it is for Extreme Tara. Whichever you pick, you are flying over the same protected landscape, part of the Durmitor National Park World Heritage Site.

How the three lines differ

Length is the clearest dividing line. Red Rock covers 350 m in about 45 seconds; Extreme Tara covers 1,050 m in around a minute, so the longer cable buys speed and altitude rather than a much longer ride in the air.

Height matters too. Red Rock puts you 170 m above the canyon, while Extreme Tara is marketed on a bird's-eye view of the bridge arches with the canyon dropping away below. Other published figures, such as a 166 m vertical drop and a 1,300 m maximum canyon depth, are indicative rather than operator-confirmed.

If you want to fly alongside someone, ask about the parallel lines. Red Rock and Extreme Tara both allow two people to fly on separate cables at the same time, while the Montenegro option puts two people on one line connected together.

Prices in euros

Expect to pay by the flight, not by the hour. Red Rock is listed at 20€ per person, Extreme Tara from 55€, and a two-way Tara zipline product combining the Big and Red Rock flights is advertised from 70€. These are operator 'from' figures and can change with season and package.

Combined packages exist, such as rafting on the Tara with the Extreme Zipline, advertised from 99€. If you are already planning time on the water, a bundle can be better value than booking the flight on its own, but check what the price includes before you commit.

Prices are quoted in euros. Confirm the current figure with the operator when you book rather than budgeting exactly from an older listing, as 'from' prices vary with season and package.

Where you start and how you get back

The meeting point for all three is the Đurđevića Tara Bridge area, where you check in, get fitted with harnesses and receive a safety briefing before walking to the launch platform. Free parking sits just across the road from the Red Rock start, and the Extreme Tara operator points to parking behind the motel or in a secondary lot.

Getting back differs by line. Red Rock lands you at the far side, and you walk back over the bridge in about ten minutes; the Montenegro and Extreme Tara lines include transport back to the starting point. That return trip is worth factoring in if you have children or a tight schedule.

The bridge itself is the landmark most visitors come for, so allow time to walk it at ground level as well. It also gives you a clear view of the lines and the landing zones before you decide which one suits you.

Age and weight limits, tandem flights and who should sit it out

Age limits vary slightly by operator. The Extreme Tara listing gives a minimum age of seven, and the Red Rock operator says children up to seven or eight ride with an adult or an instructor. The upper weight limit is flexible and wind-dependent, quoted between 110 and 130 kg.

Tandem flights are available, which makes the shorter line a sensible first attempt for nervous flyers or younger children. Participants need only basic fitness and the ability to follow instructions and hold position during the flight.

Pregnant women and people with serious heart conditions, recent surgery or a severe fear of heights should sit it out. If you are unsure, ask the crew at check-in rather than deciding at the platform.

Season and daily operating pattern

Sponsored

The reliable season runs from 1 May to 1 October, when the Red Rock operator says it works every day without exception. April and October depend on weather, and the site closes from November to March.

Summer is the busiest stretch, and July and August bring the crowds between 13:00 and 15:00, though waits are usually only a few minutes. Going early or late in the day is the easiest way to avoid standing around.

Spring and autumn flights come with fewer people and different scenery, but check conditions before driving up from Žabljak in the shoulder months. The mountain weather changes quickly, and a windy day can close the lines.

How long the whole thing takes

The flight itself is short, but the visit is longer. Red Rock describes preparation and the flight as taking a couple of minutes, while Extreme Tara quotes a 15–25 minute experience including check-in, kit and transport.

Arrive about 15 minutes before your booked slot for Extreme Tara so you can settle in and get kitted up. For Red Rock, walk-up visitors should allow time for the walk back across the bridge.

Add the drive to and from Žabljak, which is the natural base for the canyon. The town also works as a base for other activities in the area, so you can pair a flight with a wider day out.

Booking: walk-up versus advance booking

Red Rock says booking is not required; you simply turn up during working hours. Groups of ten or more can message ahead to cut waiting time, which matters if you are travelling as a family or club.

The Extreme Tara product is sold through a booking partner with a voucher, and you should present it on your phone or printed at check-in. Booking ahead makes sense for the longer line, especially in peak season or for a specific time slot.

If you buy a package that combines the zipline with other activities, check exactly what the voucher includes and where you meet. The flight element is usually the same, but the transport arrangements may differ from a standalone ticket.

Weather calls

Light rain typically does not stop the flights, but heavy storms pause operations until the weather passes and the crew gives the all-clear. Wind can also postpone flights, and the weight limit shifts with it.

If your slot is cancelled, ask about rebooking before leaving. Both the Red Rock operator and the Extreme Tara booking partner indicate flexible policies, but you need to confirm the details locally rather than assume a refund.

Crowds in July and August

The high season is the busiest time on the bridge, and the early afternoon window between 13:00 and 15:00 is when you are most likely to queue. Even then, the Red Rock operator says waits are only a few minutes.

Book the first slot of the day or go late afternoon if your schedule allows. The light on the canyon is also better at the edges of the day, and you will have more space on the bridge afterwards.

Safety setup and equipment

Harnesses, slacks and cables are supplied, and you are fitted out and briefed before launch. The Red Rock operator says its system was designed and built under the supervision of construction engineers, with cables rated to more than ten tonnes of breaking load.

Wear closed shoes and leave loose items in the car or with a companion. A hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are sensible in the warmer months, and a light raincoat is worth packing if the forecast is unsettled.

Is there a zipline in Budva or Njeguši?

There is no zipline over Tara Canyon near Budva; the lines described above are all at the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, a long drive inland. A separate zipline operates at Njeguši in the mountains behind Kotor, which is a different site and a different operator entirely.

If you are staying on the coast, check the Njeguši operator's own site for its current season, prices and booking arrangements rather than assuming they match the Tara lines. The two are easily confused in search results because both are marketed as Montenegro ziplines.

Practical kit and what to leave behind

Bring a small bag that closes securely, a phone with your voucher, and cash as a backup. Leave larger bags and anything loose in the car, since you cannot carry them on the flight.

Photography is best left to a companion on the bridge or the operator's own service. A GoPro Mount or a securely attached phone can work, but confirm with the crew before you launch.

Which Tara Canyon zipline should you book?

Book Red Rock if you want a short, inexpensive flight you can walk back from, and choose Extreme Tara if you want the long, fast line with transport included. Groups of ten or more should message ahead, and anyone visiting in July or August should aim outside the 13:00–15:00 window.

Confirm the current price, season and meeting point with the operator when you book, since these details can change. Then plan the rest of your day around the bridge and the surrounding national park.
