Sights in Žabljak: Plan Lakes, Passes and Canyons
Žabljak's sights spread out across the Durmitor plateau, and the split is simple: some of the best views cost only fuel and time, while the glacial lakes sit behind national park checkpoints. Sedlo Pass and Riblje jezero ask nothing but a full tank and a map; Vražje jezero charges the daily entrance fee.
The standout walks reward those who plan the day properly. From Black Lake, the three-lakes route ends at Barno jezero, a peat bog whose dark water can shrink to almost nothing by high summer and whose path turns muddy, so boots earn their place. Riblje jezero sits at 1,409 m on the Jezerska visoravan and works best as a half-day drive paired with Vražje jezero and the medieval stećci, though the grassland tracks fork and look alike.
Drivers get the drama cheaply: a paved half-hour climb reaches the 1,907 m Sedlo Pass, where narrow stretches and unlit tunnels call for headlights and a cautious pace. Sušica Canyon, a 15 km gorge dropping up to 700 m, is seen from the rim villages of Nedajno or Mala Crna Gora, and the 16 km road between them rules out a quick two-sided loop.

Sedlo Pass, Durmitor: Driving the P14 and What's at the Top
A paved climb from Žabljak reaches this 1,907 m pass in about half an hour, with limestone crags and alpine grassland at the top. Narrow stretches and unlit tunnels mean headlights and a cautious pace; the full ring road needs half a day.
2 hours · Free · Best for drivers and viewpoint seekers

Vražje jezero (Devil's Lake) near Žabljak: a visitor's guide
A round glacial lake on open pasture beside the old Nikšić road, where you park, walk down and swim or picnic. The shore is exposed at over 1,400 metres, so bring a windproof layer and everything you need.
about an hour · Paid entry · Best for quiet swims, picnics and short stops

Riblje jezero, Durmitor: Visiting the Lake on the Jezerska visoravan
A shallow lake at 1,409 m on Durmitor's Jezerska visoravan, best done as a half-day drive from Žabljak with Vražje jezero and the medieval stećci. Grassland tracks fork and look alike, so bring a map.
half a day · Free · Best for walkers and heritage stops

Barno jezero: Durmitor's Shallow Marsh Lake Near Žabljak
A shallow peat bog of dark, tannin-stained water that can shrink almost to nothing by high summer. It is the last stop on the three-lakes walk from Black Lake, reached by a muddy path where boots make the difference.
half a day · national park entrance fee; guided tour €80 for one or two · Book ahead · Best for walkers already on the three-lakes route

Zminje jezero: Visiting Durmitor's Hidden Snake Lake
A small pool at 1,520 m, ringed tightly by spruce below the Jablan lakes. It is roughly an hour on foot from there and seen in thirty minutes, so treat it as a shaded add-on rather than a destination in itself.
half a day · Best for walkers already at Jablan lakes

Sušica Canyon, Durmitor: Visiting the Canyon Above Žabljak
A 15 km gorge dropping up to 700 m, seen from the rim villages of Nedajno or Mala Crna Gora rather than from the floor, which needs a guided canyoning trip. The 16 km road between the two villages rules out a quick two-sided loop.
half a day · Best for confident drivers wanting big views
Drives and stops that cost nothing
Sedlo Pass on the P14 ring road is the clearest free win: half an hour up from Žabljak, limestone crags and alpine grassland at the top, and the main cost is time rather than money. Allow half a day if you drive the full ring.
Riblje jezero on the Jezerska visoravan also costs nothing to visit, best done as a half-day drive with Vražje jezero and the stećci. Grassland tracks fork and look alike here, so bring a map.
Where fees and tours come in
The Durmitor lakes behind checkpoints are not free: Vražje jezero carries the daily national park entrance fee, and Barno jezero lies inside the park, with a guided tour priced at €80 for one or two people. Booking is recommended for the three-lakes walk to Barno, and muddy ground means boots make the difference.
Book Sušica Canyon's floor as a guided canyoning trip if you want to go down rather than look from the rim. Everything else here runs without a reservation.
